PROMISES team vacancies

Offer for a contractual teacher-researcher (25%/75%) in Planetology – Nantes – Deadline for applications : May 22, 2024

In the framework of the ERC PROMISES (Presence and Role of Organic Matter in Icy Satellites and ExtraSolar planets), the Laboratory of Planetology and Geosciences (LPG) of Nantes recruits a contractual Teacher-Researcher. The teaching (TD and TP) of 96 hours per year will be carried out in the modules of geophysics, sciences of the universe, and geology in the curriculum of Licence in Life and Earth Sciences of Nantes University.

At the research level, the person recruited will integrate the PROMISES research team. This team works on the role and transformations of organic molecules in the thermochemical evolution of ice satellites of giant planets and water-rich exoplanets (water worlds). The person recruited will be responsible for incorporating recently obtained experimental results into numerical models of the thermal and chemical evolution of oceanic exoplanets. Numerical developments will be required to parameterize the chemical evolution and in particular the partitioning of elements between atmosphere, hydrosphere and refractory core. The results will enable us to establish mass-radius relationships and determine the composition of their atmospheres. The role of tidal heating in the thermo-chemical evolution of their refractory cores will be examined in particular, as many of these planets have elliptical orbits close to their stars.

The position is for 1 year renewable 2 times maximum. The person recruited should have knowledge in internal geophysics and/or physics applied to Earth sciences. Digital skills are required. Autonomy and ability to work in a team are necessary. The mastery of French is required for the teaching in L1.

The application, composed of a letter of motivation, a detailed CV, a certificate or copy of the last diploma obtained, and, if applicable, any other document attesting to your competence for this position, should be returned in a single pdf file to polegp-sciences@univ-nantes.fr, copied to caroline.dumoulin@univ-nantes.fr and christophe.sotin@univ-nantes.fr, with the subject line “LRU ERC PROMISES contractual application“.

The deadline for applications is May 22, 2024. The position starts on September 1, 2024.
