“Fate of organic matter in Earth’s subduction zones” par Simone Tumiati (Univ. Milan)

The seminar will explore the interactions between organic and inorganic carbon in oceanic sediments entering the subduction channel, examining how carbonate and organic matter dissolution affects the composition of aqueous fluids. Recent experiments demonstrating how the oxidation of organic matter significantly contributes to the carbon cycle in arc environments, altering the isotopic composition of volcanic CO2 and influencing the metasomatism of the supra-subduction mantle, will also be discussed.
