Jobs
The Laboratoire de Planétologie et Géosciences is recruiting a post-doc in geochemistry, an assistant engineer in instrumentation, a lecturer and a university professor.
These positions will be filled according to the general Galaxie campaign schedule. The profiles (subject to final publication) are as follows :
1- Post-doctorate in geochemistry
Work will focus on metal mobilization in contaminated wetlands under climate forcing, by coupling multi-tracer isotope system and spectroscopic speciation.
Objectives: – Identification of the biogeochemical processes responsible for metal remobilization (focus on organic matter and iron speciation) – Use of antagonistic isotope behavior to decipher the remobilization of metals from various anthropogenic sources and their subsequent interactions with soil components.
The contract will run for 18 months from June 2025. It is funded by the Region “Pays de la Loire” as part of the ISOCRUE research project led by Gildas Ratié, Senior Lecturer at LPG and Nantes University.
2- Assistant Instrumentation Engineer (BAP C) – 12-month fixed-term contract
The Planetology and Geosciences Laboratory is recruiting an Assistant Engineer in instrumentation and instrumental techniques. The position is open for an initial period of 12 months, and is based at the LPG’s Nantes site. The person recruited will support the development of experimental, analytical and observational projects for the whole laboratory and observatory, and take part in the assembly and testing of equipment (design/piloting of HP benches, physico-chemical measurement chains, multi-instrumented geophysical stations) in the laboratory and in the field.
Further information and application forms are available on the CNRS job portal: https://emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CDD/UMR6112-SOPHUG-006/Default.aspx
3- Professorship at Nantes University
Earth Sciences teaching at Nantes University covers all the disciplines in the field, from the first year of the SVT bachelor’s degree to the master’s degree in Earth and Planetary Sciences, Environment (STPE), the master’s degree in Environmental Management (GE) and the MEEF-SVT, as well as in the international Erasmus Mundus GeoPlanet master’s program. The person recruited will have extensive teaching experience in Geosciences (Bachelor’s, Master’s) and will have exercised teaching responsibilities. He/she will be required to teach both in the classroom and in the field. Teaching will take place at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels (particularly in the Earth and Planetary Sciences section of the STPE Master’s program, where courses are taught in English), and may also involve doctoral studies. With a very good knowledge of our courses, the person recruited will be involved in responsibilities at Licence, Master or Department level.
Research profile :
The Laboratoire de Planétologie et Géosciences (LPG – UMR 6112) is organized into 3 research themes (Earth, Planets and Moons, and Coastal and Marine Systems), an organization that promotes interdisciplinarity in the laboratory’s activities. By combining different approaches (observation, experimentation, modeling), the LPG has acquired recognized expertise in characterizing the surface of the Earth and other solar system bodies, and in understanding the geological processes that shape them.
The laboratory is looking to recruit a university professor who will reinforce the current research thrusts of the laboratory’s themes, while enriching them with his or her own skills, from one or more of the specialties already present: experimental petrology, magmatic petrogeochemistry, terrestrial and planetary mineralogy and alteration. The person recruited must demonstrate a willingness to take an active part in the collective tasks associated with running a CNRS UMR, as well as administrative responsibilities.
Candidates are expected to have a solid publication record, good project management experience, and experience in managing or leading research themes or teams.
4- Teacher-researcher position at Nantes University
Earth Sciences teaching at Nantes University covers all disciplines in the field, from the first year of the SVT bachelor’s degree to the Earth and Planetary Sciences, Environment master’s degree (including its international Erasmus Mundus GeoPlaNet course), the Environmental Management master’s degree and the MEEF-SVT.
The person recruited will have teaching experience in the geosciences, and will be required to teach petrology (sedimentary, metamorphic, magmatic) both in the classroom and in the field. A high level of field experience is therefore expected: the person recruited will be involved in setting up, running and supervising camps or field trips at Bachelor’s and/or Master’s level. Master’s level courses will be partly taught in English. The person recruited is also expected to take on teaching responsibilities in the medium term.
Research profile :
The Laboratoire de Planétologie et Géosciences is organized into 3 research themes
(Earth, Planets and Moons, and Coastal and Marine Systems), an organization that fosters the interdisciplinary nature of the laboratory’s activities. By combining different approaches (observation, experimentation, modeling), the LPG has acquired recognized expertise in characterizing the surface of the Earth and other solar system bodies, and in understanding the geological processes that shape them.
The laboratory is seeking to recruit a senior lecturer who will bring his or her expertise as a petrolologist-geochemist, terrestrial and/or planetary, to the study of rock formation and/or alteration processes in different geological contexts. The scientific objectives are broad, and may include endogenous magmatic petrology, terrestrial or planetary sedimentary context, or preparation of extraterrestrial sample returns. This research will fit in with one or more of the LPG’s research themes, Earth, Planets and Moon, or Coastal and Marine Systems. They should be based on the analytical geochemistry equipment available at the LPG or within the shared GEOBIOSE platform.
