The planned JUICE and Europa Clipper missions are set to explore Jupiter's icy moons in the coming decade. Recent progress in experimental and computational thermodynamics motivates efforts to improve forward modeling capabilities. We will describe radial structure calculations that use the best available thermodynamics for materials in the ice, ocean, and deeper interior. Related work on the extent of serpentinization in icy ocean worlds leads to predictions of the global redox fluxes, with a focus on Jupiter's moon Europa. To predict measurable products of different planetary evolution models—such as ocean composition, volatile content, and heat flow -we are evaluating the production of melt in the silicate interiors of icy ocean worlds. |
