Research interests

 

My research aims at understanding the 4D evolution of sedimentary basins and their controlling factors, from the first order lithospheric parameters, to the timely influences of the local surface environment.

Planetary and Basin Geologist, I am specialized in integrated multi-scale studies and interpretation of past basins and paleoenvironments through a large disciplinary spectrum:

  • Sedimentology and Stratigraphy
  • Geomorphology
  • Geochemistry (isotopic ratios of C and O, Trace & Major elements)
  • Geophysics (AirMag and Gravity anomalies)
  • Tectonics and Structurals
  • Geologic Mapping

To apply these methods to remote plantery outcrops situated on Mars or Luna, I reconstruct detailed and accurate Digital Outcrop Models using photogrammetry. I particularly focus on various outcrops of the Gale crater (Mars) along the traverse of the Curiosity rover (MSL mission).

I participated in developping new inovative and immersive tools, in collaboration with VR2Planets, to explore and characterize these outcrops in Virtual Reality.

The VR approach provides a new way to explore, describe and characterize accurate reconstructions of the outcrops on Mars, but also on Earth, which opens new opportunities for the education of the next generation of (planetary) geologists.

I am involved in the supervision of several Bachelor and Master's degree students each year. I am also involved in praticals courses in Sedimentology at Bachelor level
