Comprendre sa variabilit\u00e9 naturelle, ind\u00e9pendamment des for\u00e7ages anthropiques, constitue donc un enjeu central. Affect\u00e9 par la mousson, le Golfe du Bengale re\u00e7oit d\u2019importants apports d\u2019eau douce li\u00e9s aux pr\u00e9cipitations et au ruissellement continental, favorisant une stratification de la surface oc\u00e9anique. Les reconstructions pal\u00e9oclimatiques r\u00e9gionales reposent en partie sur les mesures g\u00e9ochimiques des tests de foraminif\u00e8res planctoniques, dont les isotopes stables de l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne (\u03b4<sup>18<\/sup>O). Les gradients intersp\u00e9cifiques de \u03b4<sup>18<\/sup>O (\u0394\u03b4<sup>18<\/sup>O) permettent de reconstituer les variations de la stratification, mais leur interpr\u00e9tation suppose une profondeur d\u2019habitat constante, encore peu contrainte dans cette r\u00e9gion. Cette th\u00e8se contraint la profondeur d\u2019habitat des principales esp\u00e8ces de foraminif\u00e8res planctoniques du Golfe du Bengale \u00e0 partir de donn\u00e9es de filets \u00e0 plancton, combin\u00e9es \u00e0 au \u03b4<sup>18<\/sup>O de leur test dans le s\u00e9diment r\u00e9cent. Ces observations permettent d\u2019\u00e9tablir un cadre reliant les variations de \u0394\u03b4<sup>18<\/sup>O aux changements de la stratification de la colonne d\u2019eau. Appliqu\u00e9 aux 500 000 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es dans le sud du Golfe du Bengale (sites IODP U1443 et ODP 758), ce cadre met en \u00e9vidence des phases de m\u00e9lange renforc\u00e9 de la couche de surface durant les p\u00e9riodes interglaciaires, traduisant une intensification des vents de mousson. \u00c0 l\u2019inverse, des \u00e9pisodes de stratification maximale co\u00efncident avec les terminaisons glaciaires, lorsque la mousson est affaiblie.
